Hi, I am Miwa!

I am a board certified music therapist, a mom of two teenagers, and a cancer survivor. I love working with people and finding a way to improve their lives. I grew up as a trained pianist, a person with a perfect pitch that also distracted me from school work as well as enriched me.

I am native of Japan, people described me as being grounded, calm and patient. After all my name- Mi is for the beauty of wa, is for harmony- living with beautiful harmony!

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time outdoors with family, and my cuddly dog.

Experiences

I have graduated from the University of the Pacific with a music therapy degree. I worked with people with Development disabilities, seniors, preschoolers, and also in a psychiatric setting in a state hospital before making my private practice. I have been seeing mainly kids in my private practice, but not limited to that population.

I am also passionate about mentoring young music therapists in my area.

Years of Expertise & Professionalism

I have deep empathy for people who struggle to express themselves. As a child I struggled to express my feelings. During my cancer treatment, how pain and many mixed up feelings can be overwhelming, yet it was so hard to put it into words. Everyone is entitled for their own feelings yet others can easily dismiss that or take it lightly.

Not only my own, but experiences with everyone has been sharpening my eyes to support unspoken, under represented, and underrated communities of people with special needs.
