What is offered?
Music therapy is a therapy utilizing music as a therapeutic medium, focusing on their specific goals. It could be musical as well as non-musical goals. Music is a non-threatening alternative to work on skills such as speech, motor coordination or cognitive skills. You need no previous experience nor visible talent. If you or your child is fond of music, that is a plus too but that is not always necessary. I teach students with Autism, Autism spectrum, ADD or ADHD, as well as students with sensory impairment, dyslexia, and mental retardation.
Piano lessons
Playing a piano or any instruments are quite popular extra curricular activities by children. Why not be able to take lessons? You might have tried before with non-music therapists and did not go as you thought it would be. There is a specific way in piano lessons music therapists teach students with special needs. And it is not just playing piano- the whole process of it.
Music therapy activities
Music therapy activities are fun for students yet therapeutic part of my session. Making a goal and approaching that with music with precise prompting and planning can be done by music therapists. It is also the time for students to be able to explore their recreational skills.
